Tricks to land your dream job in 2021

If you are currently looking for a job, what are your expectations for your next position? If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the events of the past year and are having a hard time imagining a new challenge right now, here are some tips to make your next career move easier in 2021.

Look for a suitable contact to refer you

In addition to standard CV submissions, it is important to leverage the power of your professional and personal network. When you like a position or company, find out if you have a contact who can refer you and tell you more about the "kitchen" of the organization.

Recognize and highlight your transferable skills

If there is some gap between your last position and the current moment, you may feel insecure about your skills. To avoid this feeling, focus on your transferable skills – the ones that will make you a desirable candidate in your next role. If you teach from home or volunteer, for example, these are activities that show your continued growth, so be sure to share them during a job interview.

The foundation of all transferable skills is the willingness and willingness to learn and develop. Examples of your ability to develop through the different stages of your career path, both professionally and personally, are also recommended to find a place in your presentation.

Get an outside perspective

You may feel that you know yourself better than anyone else, but you are not necessarily the most objective evaluator of your own skills. Instead, you can trust professional counseling or take a personality assessment test and use the results to determine your strengths.

You can also talk to a career counselor to help you better understand your worth and what a potential employer will value about you.

Be persistent and positive

In any job search, setbacks are inevitable. Expect this to happen and don't get discouraged when you get a no. It's important not to take the feedback you receive as an assessment of your personality but as an indicator of what you could improve in your skills. Thoughts like "It's my fault", "I'm not qualified for any role" or "I'll never get a job" are not helpful - Avoid them.

If you find them creeping in, reframe and look at it from a different perspective - it's just one position, it wasn't right this time, and the right one is still out there somewhere.

Remind yourself where your true talents lie. This will help you develop where you have the greatest potential and where you can feel in the right environment. Keep using your goals as your north star even in the face of setbacks and your next step could lead to the role and company you want.
